Orion Robot Controversy at India AI Impact Summit 2026
A robotic dog named “Orion,” displayed at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 held in New Delhi, has become the center of a major controversy. Galgotias University introduced it as an indigenous artificial intelligence project developed by their students. However, within hours, experts identified it as a commercially available foreign-manufactured robot.

What Happened?

At a stall set up during the summit, a professor described the robotic dog as an “AI robot developed by our Centre of Excellence.” A video of the presentation quickly went viral on social media.

However, technology experts and robotics hobbyists immediately recognized the robot. They stated that it was a commercial robot model manufactured by a Chinese company.

As a result, criticism flooded social media platforms. Many users commented that presenting a commercially available robot as a homegrown innovation was misleading.

As the controversy intensified, the organizers reportedly asked for the concerned stall to be removed from the summit.

Later, Galgotias University issued a clarification stating,
“We did not intentionally claim that we manufactured the robot. We regret the misunderstanding.”

Why Did It Spark Major Debate?

The summit was organized to promote domestic AI innovations. Displaying a market-available robot as an indigenous project on such a platform raised serious questions about credibility.

After the video went viral, netizens responded with memes and criticism. Comments such as “Honesty is needed before AI” were widely shared across platforms.
